The Amsterdam Criminal Court ruled on 14 October 2019 on the stabbing with a terrorist motive on Amsterdam Central Railway Station which occurred on 31 August 2018. Two American tourists were badly injured. The perpetrator was found guilty of attempted murder twice. He was convicted to maximum imprisonment of 26 years and 8 months. The American victims were granted financial compensation of nearly €2.900.000.-. Under Dutch law the convicted perpetrator has to pay this amount. However, in cases like these where it concerns serious crimes, the Dutch government performs payment if the perpetrator does not pay.
