John has been President of PEOPIL since 2016 and is the founding partner of the Dutch Law Firm Beer advocaten (N.V.),

Beer advocaten is primarily a personal injury and medical negligence law firm and acts for plaintiffs only. It presently consists of sixteen attorneys and a team of medical doctors. Beer advocaten is one of the leading aviation law firms in Europe and regularly acts as co-counsel in cross-border personal injury litigation cases.

John’s firm has also handled cases that have led to landmark decisions of the Dutch Supreme Court regarding Dutch liability and personal injury law. These included limitation issues in medical negligence cases regarding minors, the entitlement to damages for parents who traumatically witnessed the death of a child and most recently the liability of the Police for issuing a gun permit to a psychiatric patient. 

Recently John recovered compensation for two American tourists injured in a terrorist attack at the Amsterdam Railway Station in August 2018. The victims were granted substantial compensation of nearly € 3 million which compensation will be paid by the Dutch government. 

John is also a member of the Board of Governors of the American Association for Justice (AAJ), the founding past President of the Dutch Association of Plaintiff Lawyers ( and a past member of the Council of Representatives Dutch Bar Association. In 2017 he received a Royal honour for his work as a plaintiff lawyer.
